{"id":2565,"date":"2015-10-19T09:29:49","date_gmt":"2015-10-19T09:29:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kravelv.com\/?p=2565"},"modified":"2020-02-24T02:20:14","modified_gmt":"2020-02-24T02:20:14","slug":"how-to-make-room-for-your-car-in-the-garage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kravelv.com\/how-to-make-room-for-your-car-in-the-garage\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Make Room for Your Car in the Garage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Research says that less than \u00bc of homes with garages actually use them for their cars.\u00a0 That just doesn\u2019t make sense!\u00a0 Cars are a five-figure investment and to leave them at the mercy of the heat, the cold \u2013 and the bird droppings may not be the best idea.\u00a0 But, you garage is full!\u00a0 Where do start?\u00a0 Here\u2019s how to make room for your car in your garage!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>It all comes out. <\/strong>The first step is the hardest \u2013 everything, yes, everything needs to come out of the garage.\u00a0 And, every box needs to be opened.\u00a0 You may find things you forgot you even owned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Make sensible piles.<\/strong> You probably want to divide your things into three groups \u2013 one you\u2019ll keep, one you\u2019ll sell at a garage sale or donate and one for things that are only good for the trash.\u00a0 Your keep pile should be organized by category \u2013 kids\u2019 stuff in one area, the Holiday decorations in another, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Get out the hose and the broom!<\/strong> With everything out of the way, it\u2019s time to give the garage a cleanup.\u00a0 While you house probably gets regular sprucing up, you garage may be the home to dust bunnies (and other critters).\u00a0 Take advantage of the empty space and give it a good cleaning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2566 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kravelv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/garage-cleaning.jpg\" alt=\"garage cleaning\" width=\"400\" height=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Stop and think.<\/strong> Before you put everything back, take time to figure out what your garage needs.\u00a0 Shelves?\u00a0 A cabinet or two?\u00a0 You can DIY or you can go to a big box store and find inexpensive \u2013 or expensive \u2013 options.\u00a0 If you want to turn the space into a showcase for your tools, pay the price.\u00a0 If you just want to organize, go with cheaper but sturdy!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Think some more!<\/strong> Before you start putting anything back, figure out where it should go.\u00a0 You don\u2019t want a rake propped up where it will fall on the car \u2013 yes, the goal is to put the car back in the garage.\u00a0 And, you don\u2019t want your lawnmower in a place where if someone pulls in a little too far, it\u2019s a goner.\u00a0 Common sense rules.\u00a0 Kids\u2019 sporting gear that goes in and out almost daily would be great in a big container by the door.\u00a0 If you only ride your mountain bike twice a year, get an overhead, hanging bike rack and gain more space.\u00a0 In fact, look up and see what could be stored on a high shelf or hung from the ceiling to create more space. Or regular maintenance?<br \/>\nWe recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoservice1chicago.com\/\">Auto Service 1<\/a> for auto repair and maintenance works.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Put your plan into action. <\/strong>First, draw a chalk rectangle big enough for the car and then start putting everything back around that space.\u00a0 You got some shelves so get some big containers that will hold like items and mark them clearly so you can find what\u2019s in them when the time comes.\u00a0 Stack them on the shelves; get your tools in the cabinet or hand some peg board and hang them over the cabinet to create a work space.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2567 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kravelv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Make-Room-for-Your-Car-in-the-Garage.jpg\" alt=\"driver opens the garage with remote control from the comfort of a car\" width=\"400\" height=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Some things don\u2019t belong!<\/strong> If you\u2019ve been storing paint or flammables, put them somewhere else.\u00a0 They don\u2019t belong in the garage.\u00a0 Likewise for dog food that will attract pests and anything else that can\u2019t take the extreme temperatures of a garage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your garage is pretty, clean and organized. Now, make sure it\u2019s safe. Add a fire extinguisher or two. Have your garage door serviced. It should be inspected by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arizonagaragedoors.com\/\">Garage Door Repair Phoenix<\/a> maintenance company at least once a year to make sure it\u2019s secure, in good working order and the automatic reversal is functioning. Now, pat yourself on the back and pull your car into its space!
